Turning a Creative Campaign into an Interactive Learning Experience
Project Overview
KickStart Online collaborated with Humankind Advertising Agency to develop a custom employee training microsite for Dial Direct. The microsite formed part of an internal educational campaign designed to familiarise employees with new insurance information, rewards programmes, product changes and mobile app functionality.
Humankind was responsible for the creative concept, user journey, imagery and artwork. KickStart Online was responsible for developing the functional application, implementing the interactive features and integrating the creative materials into a complete digital experience.
The platform combined employee registration, personalised avatars, structured training content, interactive questionnaires, rewards scoring and progress tracking. Designed as a temporary campaign platform, the microsite operated for approximately six months.
Creative Agency Collaboration
A defining aspect of the project was the collaboration between Humankind and KickStart Online. Humankind developed the campaign idea, visual direction and intended user experience.
Our responsibility was to translate that creative vision into a working application. This required implementing the supplied layouts and user flow while developing the underlying functionality needed to manage user accounts, training progression, questionnaire validation and rewards scoring.
The project illustrates how creative agencies and technical development partners can work together to deliver interactive digital campaigns.
Employee Registration & Access Control
The microsite was intended exclusively for Dial Direct employees. We developed a registration and login system that identified eligible users through their employee numbers. Once verified, participants could register and access the training content through their individual accounts.
This ensured that the campaign remained restricted to its intended internal audience.
Personalised Avatar Selection
Following registration, participants could select an avatar to represent them throughout the learning experience. The selected avatar was integrated into the microsite’s navigation and progress-tracking interface.
As users completed training sections, the avatar moved along the section indicator, providing a visual representation of their progress. This personalised element made the training experience more interactive and helped participants identify their position within the programme.
Six Interactive Training Sections
The microsite was divided into six educational sections. Each section presented information and video tutorials covering aspects of Dial Direct’s insurance products, rewards programmes, new rules and mobile app functionality.
The content was structured to guide participants through the training programme in a logical sequence. Interactive navigation controls allowed users to move through the content within their current learning section.
Interactive Knowledge Assessments
Each training section concluded with a questionnaire designed to assess the participant’s understanding. KickStart Online developed the questionnaire functionality, answer validation and progression rules.
Participants could only unlock the next section once they had correctly answered all questions in their current section. If the required answers were not correct, the application provided feedback and directed the participant to review the relevant material.
This created a structured learning journey in which progression depended on completing the assessments successfully.
Individual Progress Tracking
A key technical requirement was allowing participants to complete their training over multiple visits. The application recorded each user’s progress and remembered the last page they visited.
When participants returned and logged in again, they were taken back to their previous position within the programme. This removed the need to restart the training and supported completion at each employee’s own pace.
Automated Rewards Scoring
To support the campaign’s participation incentives, KickStart Online developed a custom rewards scoring system. The application calculated and recorded participant scores based on questionnaire performance and the campaign’s scoring rules.
Rewards feedback was incorporated into the learning experience, allowing participants to see the results of their assessments. Voucher allocation and prize-draw administration were managed separately by Humankind and Dial Direct.
KickStart Online’s responsibility was the technical implementation of the assessment and scoring functionality.
Interactive Feedback & Engagement
The microsite incorporated custom feedback screens designed around the campaign’s visual identity. These screens communicated assessment results and guided users towards the next stage of the programme or back to material requiring further review.
Combined with the avatar navigation, rewards scoring and structured content, the feedback helped create a more engaging experience than a conventional training website.
Custom Application Development
The project required several functional components to operate together:
- Employee number verification and account registration.
- Individual user authentication.
- Avatar selection and personalised navigation.
- Six structured training sections.
- Educational content and video presentation.
- Interactive questionnaires and answer validation.
- Conditional unlocking of subsequent sections.
- Persistent user progress and last-visited-page tracking.
- Automated rewards scoring.
- Custom feedback and completion screens.
These features were integrated into a single application based on Humankind’s creative direction.
A Purpose-Built Campaign Platform
The microsite was developed specifically for Dial Direct’s internal educational campaign. It was not intended to operate as a permanent public website. The platform was available for approximately six months, providing a dedicated environment for employees to complete the training programme.
Because the microsite was private and campaign-specific, it is no longer publicly accessible.
Results & Business Benefits
The completed application provided Dial Direct with a structured platform for communicating new product and programme information to employees. Participants could learn through a combination of written content, videos and interactive assessments.
The progression rules required successful completion of each section’s questionnaire before participants could advance. Individual progress tracking allowed employees to return to their training over multiple visits, while avatars and rewards scoring provided additional engagement features.
For KickStart Online, the project demonstrates the ability to implement custom application functionality within an advertising agency’s creative campaign.
